2/18/2023 0 Comments What is dropbox vaultHas anyone had any experience with this mode of coordinating files (Inventor and otherwise) between locations? We're at the 100GB level and now considering going "all-in" with the 1TB level, so we can put ALL our stuff "up there". Dropbox, like Vault, saves incremental changes to files in the cloud, but also gives each location a "real" file that anyone without Inventor (or with Inventor, for that matter) can access in the traditional manner without resorting to a Vault Explorer interface. Additionally, we've found that the "Infinite Packrat" option in Dropbox gives us the ability to view and restore unlimited file versions. We are now working "off the server", so a single central VPN location is out of the question - speed is of the essence when accessing files.Īs long as our users continue to work solo on projects, we don't find justification to implement Vault as yet. The majority of parts, assemblies, and drawings are devoted to a project. ![]() Only a few Inventor users at each site.Įach site has a server with Dropbox installed.ĭropbox keeps files synchronized as nearly real-time as is practicable.ĭropbox does not file lock between sites, so an inadvertant collision of saves between the sites generates a "conflicted file" - we feel this risk is minimal given how we use files.Įach project nary has more than one user making edits (for the most part).
